Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT)

IGRT allows the physician to formulate a plan that delivers the radiation dose directly to the cancer by using a variety of automated systems, and tracking systems. The physician will conduct tumor imaging daily.  By doing so, the physician can locate the tumor while the patient is in the treatment position.

This minimizes the volume of healthy tissue exposed to radiation during treatment while allowing higher doses of radiation to be delivered to the tumor.
