Our Mission: to prevent and cure cancer through leading-edge care and treatment. Radiation oncology treatments today are changing at lightening speed each year. We can meet the needs of many cancer patients in our eight locations, from Stuart to Boca Raton. Our team approach to patient care enables communication and consistency between our staff and doctors. This helps our patients deal with life changing decisions and health crisis situations. We continually upgrade and add to our treatment and therapy technologies here at South Florida Radiation Oncology. We have access to the latest information in order to plan the best possible course of radiation treatment.
A Lightspeed GE CT scan and X-rays help our medical staff identify the target and the parameters for radiation therapy. Before each treatment, our patients are scanned and X-rayed in order to locate the position of the organs and tissues that need to be avoided, and to deliver precise and localized radiation to the cancerous cells. Our treatment planning system Eclipse, enables our medical team to analyze three-dimensional images and devise a precise and targeted radiation treatment. The visual models combine effectively with IMRT treatment – computer-controlled X-ray accelerators that target precise doses of radiation that conforms to the three-dimensional shape of a tumor by modulating the intensity of the beam.
Linear AcceleratorsFor decades, linear accelerators have served as the workhorse of radiation oncologists in the treatment of cancer. These complex machines enable a process called external beam radiation therapy. All six SFRO centers make use of these machines in a variety of treatments. These include: High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) Low Dose Rate (LDR) Brachytherapy For more information about the above cancer treatment technologies, please go the Our Technologies menu above. And as always, if you have any questions, please call your doctor or staff member at SFRO, at 1-800-930-7376. |
